Willmar High School Celebrates Earth Day

All week the students at Willmar High School were reminded that it is wise to recycle, reuse and replenish.  In the spirit of Earth Day and to mark the growth of the Willmar High School Key Club, the students planted a tree in front of the school on Friday afternoon.  The event was complete with several poems about trees and a song in tribute. Earth week was completed with trash pick up at several parks.

The WHS Key Club was chartered at the beginning of this school year along with the Dream Technical Academy Key Club. The two clubs are sponsored by the Willmar Kiwanis Club.  Key Club is an international organization that is student led and provides service opportunities, leadership skills, character building and community inclusiveness. The club prides itself on volunteerism and the building of today’s communities and tomorrow’s community leaders.

We would like to say thank you to the 2016/17 officers who have done a wonderful job. Thank you to: President Gracee Krall, VP Cailey Titrud, VP Carly Hulstein, Secretary Riley Schneider, Treasurer Adi Gunderson and Editor Annie Schaefbauer. A job well done.

During the 2016/17 school year, the WHS Key Club sponsored the Homecoming Car Smash for Cancer, Adopt a Highway clean up, a Mock Election, Coats for Kids clothing drive, a Halloween Pumpkin Party, Salvation Army Christmas Bell Ringing, a Food Drive, Tie Blankets for the Womens Shelter, the Bella Project-Prom Dress Giveaway, Earth Day tree planting and Park Clean up, and will be helping with Childcare at the Destination Playground….I apologize if I missed anything….The just is that this group of High School students have been VERY busy…..and productive.

We would like to introduce the 2017/18 officers: President Jenna Stauffenecker, VP Rachel Swanson, Secretary Makenna Brouwer, Treasurer Ingrid Lindgren, Editor Emily Mulmgren and Class Director Natasha Klatt.

The Key Club is open to all students at Willmar High School or Dream Technical Academy who have a heart for the community and would like to build inclusiveness and leadership through service projects. We look forward to many good projects!
